Based in Columbus, Georgia, Dr. Charles Roman provides patients with a wide range of medical services through the Roman Medical Group. Outside of work, Dr. Charles Roman is passionate about reading and enjoys books ranging from the Bible to the latest mysteries and thrillers. One of the most popular mysteries in recent years was Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl (2012), which focuses on the devious machinations that take place within a marriage at the breaking point.

Using what the New York Times called “ice-pick-sharp” narrative and dialogue, Flynn deconstructs what appears to be the perfect marriage. She uses an unconventional approach to storytelling that alternates Nick and Amy’s unreliable memories of the trajectory of their engagement in New York and subsequent disastrous move to small-town Missouri. The reader is left to puzzle out the truth behind this fatal attraction, which lies somewhere in between the two accounts.

Compared by critics to the classic psychological mysteries of Patricia Highsmith, Gone Girl was a major bestseller that was turned into a major Hollywood film in 2014, starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike.

Dr. Charles Roman is a longtime Columbus, Georgia, general internist who strives to provide patients with quality, personalized health care through Roman Medical Group. An avid reader, Dr. Charles Roman has varied tastes, and his favorite works range from the Bible to mystery thrillers. One of the most enduringly popular series in the latter genre is the late Stieg Larsson’s Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Unfortunately, that effort, which Larsson had intended to continue for eight to ten novels, ended with just a trilogy of completed works.

In 2015, the series took on new life with the publication of David Lagercrantz’ The Girl in the Spider’s Web. The book concerns Frans Balder, an artificial intelligence expert who becomes embroiled in a case encompassing the U.S. and Swedish security agencies, industrial spies in Silicon Valley, and the Russian mafia.

Critics have found the new book convincing in the way it mixes social commentary with fast-paced action and highly evocative of Larsson’s style. In particular, Lagercrantz is able to vividly capture the world weariness of Salander and Blomkvist amidst a modern Scandinavia that is typically presented as bright and contemporary.
